1. LAPTOPS AND LAPTOP BAGS AS CABIN BAGGAGE

South African Airways cabin baggage policy allows for a passenger travelling in economy class to have one piece of hand baggage not exceeding 8kg in weight and a total of 115cm in size and for a passenger travelling in premium class two such pieces.

Certain articles may be carried onboard in the cabin for free as listed in the CCMM Chapter 4.2.2 and the PSM Section 2 Chapter 1. Please note that a laptop NOT a laptop bag is an additional free article which may be carried onboard but is not presently listed Chapter 4.2.2(CCMM).

As few passengers travel without a bag to protect their laptops, it is acceptable to allow a laptop in a laptop bag onboard. However, the size of the laptop bag is defined by the size of the laptop as per the attached photograph. Bags that contain large amounts of documentation and personal items are not acceptable as a laptop bag and as such would be considered as cabin baggage and form part of the passenger’s cabin baggage allowance, which is restricted by SAA cabin baggage policy.

On all sectors, ground staff and cabin crewmembers are to strictly adhere to the hand baggage policy as outlined in the PSM and CCMM. Non-compliance will be addressed.
